Agnes Cooper Obituary

On Saturday, August 17, 2019, Agnes Muriel Campbell Cooper, "Cute Little Mom," loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away much too early at the young age of 85 and went home to Jesus. Agnes was born at home in Mariba, KY to Gladys and Alex Campbell on Oct 22, 1933. She graduated in 1953 from Frenchburg High School, a Presbyterian school, in Frenchburg, KY. She worked in the Cowden factory, at the telephone company as an operator, and as a data entry operator for the University of Kentucky. She also took airline stewardess training. In late Fall of 1960, Bob Walton introduced her to Tommye Cooper. Early in 1961 they started dating. On their first date, they went to a drive-in movie to see Ben Hur in the rain.  Starting in August of 1961, Tommye started begging her to marry him. She was in no hurry. He asked her “probably approaching half a dozen times.” In September she said yes and they planned the wedding near her birthday.  Tommye and Agnes were married on Friday, October 20, 1961 in a Church of God (by Brother Tarr) in Lexington, KY with her cousin, Hubert, and his wife, Nadine, as witnesses. Her Mom and sister, Nancy, were the only others in attendance.  She very faithfully followed her husband wherever he led her for almost 58 years. The first step in their journey was going to Tommye’s family farm with him in 1962. In October, 1962 they moved back to Lexington and lived in a 10x40’ trailer from October, 1962 to June, 1966. In those four years Agnes continued to work and support them while Tommye finished his PhD.  Early in 1966 she quit work to type Tommye’s dissertation and, in March of 1966 they were blessed with the pregnancy of their firstborn, Debra. In June 1966, Tommye was offered a position with the US Dept. of Agriculture and they moved to Greenbelt, MD. “She continued to help me with my work and I was dazzling them with what I was able to accomplish with her help.” Debra Ann Cooper was born September 7, 1966. Once they learned a second child was on the way, they moved to a 3 BR/2BA house with air conditioning in June of 1968 and lived there for 5 years. Curtis Lee Cooper was born November 6, 1968. Brady Thomas Cooper was a very pleasant surprise on 7/7/70. They moved to Ft. Collins, CO in 1973 and Agnes continued to follow her husband as they moved to multiple different states and 2 foreign countries. Agnes loved Jesus, Southern Gospel Music, quilting, and solving puzzles. There was always a puzzle under construction on the dining room table, until she figured out she could build puzzles on her computer. She always had sheets of paper with strange notes and graphs as she figured out those logic puzzles that most people are terrified of attempting…the more complex, the better. She and Tommye frequently enjoyed taking Southern Gospel Quartet cruises. Agnes also loved coloring Easter eggs. Agnes was known for her infectious smile, her ability to talk to anyone, and her life of "catching more flies with honey than ya do with vinegar." She truly exuded the fruits of the Holy Spirit with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control.

Agnes is survived by her Husband, Tommye, daughter, Debra, son, Curtis, son, Brady, 6 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
