Jesse Lee Salyer, Sr., 70, died after a courageous battle with bile duct cancer of February 18 at his residence.
He was born in Shelbiana, Pike County, KY on May 5, 1937, the only child of the late Eulan Clint and Esta Lorraince French Salyer.
He was also preceded in death by his grandparents; Jesse & Simelda Rowe Sayler and Lee & Mouse Hopkins French.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane Ledford Salyer, son, Jesse Lee Salyer, Jr., of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands and Pikeville, KY, daughter, Jane Ann Salyer of Lexington, KY, serveral aunts and uncles; Ernest and Hellen Salyer of Jacksonville, FL, Charles and Lois Ann Salyer of FL, and Ms. Hubert Salyer of Atlanta, GA; and sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws; Ann McConnell of Pikeville, KY, Jim McConnell of Russell, KY, Janice Ledford of Ashland, KY and Joe & Jackie Doerflein of Cinncinnati, OH.
He was a graduate of Pike County School and attended the Univiersity of Kentucky.
He was a railroad conductor for the Florida East Coast, Miami, FL and assistant trainmaster for the Rock Island Railroad, Chicago, IL and a retired bussinessman.
He was a member for the Shelby United Methodist Church, a master mason of the Thomas C. Cecil Lodge #375, and membef of the Pikeville Commandery No. 45, Pikeville Council No. 96, Pikeville Chapter No. 133 and El Hasa Shrine & Scottish Rites.
Graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at Catron Cemetery in Pomeroyton, KY.
