Olene Peck Obituary

OLENE (WYNN) PECK, age 89 years, 1 month, and 10 days, of Edgewood Estates, 195 Berryman Road, in Frenchburg, Kentucky, passed from this life on July 28, 2018 at about 7:00 a.m., following a hard fought battle with numerous health conditions. She passed from this life to rest in God’s care until the second coming of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

OLENE was born on June 18th, 1929, in Mariba, Kentucky, to Thomas William Wynn and Carrie Ellen (Egelston) Wynn, both of which preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Fairis Cecil Peck, and three sisters, Ona (Wynn) Smallwood, Orpha (Wynn) Agee, and Ordean (Wynn) Woodward. Others include a daughter-in-law, Nannie Elizabeth Peck, infant twin grandsons born to Randall Wayne Peck and Karen Sue Peck, two grandsons - Tracy Ray Abney and Matthew Cecil Abney, and an infant great-granddaughter born to Marcus & Kelli Abney.

She is survived by her five children: (1) Thomas Courtney (Freda) Peck of Wellington, KY, (2) Randall Wayne (Karen) Peck of Frenchburg, KY, (3) Donna Faye (Ray) Abney of Frenchburg, KY, (4) Fairis Steven Peck of Frenchburg, KY, and (5) Kathy Jo (James) Daulton of Frenchburg, KY. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and two step grandchildren, (1) Thomas C. (Melinda) Peck, Jr., (2) Randall W. (Lisa) Peck, Jr., (3) Susan E. (Jason) Smallwood, (4) Marcus A. (Kelli) Abney, (5) Darin L. (Sarah) Abney, (6) Samantha A. (Tracy) Trimble, (7) Melanie F. (Jamie) Golden, (8) Christopher J. Daulton, (9) Rebecca J. Elkins, and (10) John A. (Kyndall) Daulton; 16 great-grandchildren, 5 step great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also, a sister, Opal (Wynn) Brown of Frenchburg, KY, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Olene was raised on the Wynn family farm in the Mariba Community, and attended the two room elementary school that was located there. Next, she attended and graduated from high school at the United Presbyterian Center in Frenchburg in 1948. When she was 19 years old, she met her future husband and was married a few months before she turned 20. The first home for the new couple was close to her husband’s home place in Pomeroyton. After moving a couple of times to houses in the same area and staying for about 7 years, it was decided that they would move back to a house in the Wynn Flat area where she had lived before being married. The house was located on her father’s farm and this is where her five children would be raised. Olene would always be engaged in work on the farm throughout her life, as well as working public jobs for 6 years at Cowden Manufacturing Company in Mount Sterling, and for 12 years at the Lexington-Bluegrass Army Depot at Avon. However, it was rare if she ever missed attending services at the Mariba First Church of God with the family. It was here that she had become a Christian at a revival held by Walter Strong on March 14, 1956. Her constant faith in God and strong allegiance to family never waivered and she was always able to hold things together through troubled times. She will be remembered as a Dedicated & Hard-Working Christian, Wife, Mother, Mamaw, Sister, Cousin, Aunt, and Friend.
