Robert Val Matthews Sr of Frenchburg, KY passed away Wednesday December 26, 2018 at his home after an extended illness. He was born January 30,1944 in Custard, KY a son of the late Thadoys Earl Matthews and Margaret Duke Matthews. He was a retired brick layer and masonry worker. He was a member of the Means Community Miracle Church, Means, KY. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Sharon Milligan Matthews. Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and his best friend Buster. He loved traveling, camping and flea marketing. He lived life to the fullest. He was always joking, laughing, smiling and pranking. He loved spending time with family and friends.

Surviving is his wife, Minta A. Koger Simpson Matthews, Mariba, KY. Five children Robert “Bobby” Val Matthews Jr & wife Amy Wisdom, Sellersburg, IN., Johnathan Earl Matthews & wife Krista, Charlestown, IN., Daniel Ray Simpson & wife Jaime, Florence, KY. Minta Nicole Gray & husband Roy, Manchester, KY. Eric Simpson, Morehead, KY. Close family friends, Brian Keith Matthews, Charlestown, IN., Pam & Norb Frank, Taylorsville, KY. and Dee Dawson, Lawrenceburg, KY. Fifteen grandchildren, Jeet Kunedo, Eric Wisdom, Ethan Matthews, Dylan Matthews, Lillian Matthews, Kita Perry, Aaron Simpson, Matthew Simpson, Kirsten Smith, Coen Smith, Justin Simpson, Dani Simpson, Megan Barnes, Allison Sheets, Ryan Sheets. Three great-grandchildren. One sister, Mary ‘Lucy’ husband Bill Salyor, Hillview, KY. Four brothers, James & wife Genny Matthews, Mt. Washington,KY. Roy & wife Sharon Matthews, Norfolk, VA. Allen & Wife Penny Matthews, Louisville, KY. Franklin & wife Janice Rusher, Hardinsburg, KY.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Sunday December 30, 2018 at Menifee Home For Funerals with Bro. Tommy Evans officiating. Burial in Poplin Cemetery, Kendrick Ridge Road, Mariba, KY. Visitation after 6:00pm Saturday at Menifee Home For Funerals, Frenchburg, KY, with Randy Halsey Funeral Director. Pallbearers will be friends and family.
