Merle Dean Wells passed away peacefully on February 28th,2025 at the St. Claire Hospital in Morehead KY surrounded by his family after a long battle with COPD and pulmonary fibrosis, he was 75 years old and a member of the Big Woods Church. Born on January 15, 1950 in Frenchburg, KY to Doran Wells and Bernice Smith Wells. Merle was the youngest of seven children, his siblings were Lester Ray Wells, Frances Wells Nolan, John Curtis Wells, Robert Laymon (Bobby) Wells, Larry Richard Wells and Rosemary Wells Heaton.
He was the father of four sons, Johnny Dean Wells, Michael Scott Wells, Christopher Dean Wells and Terry Wayne Barnett. One daughter Nikki Ann Wells, several grandchildren and great grandchildren and the husband of Judy Creech Wells, his loving and devoted wife of 34 years. Host of nieces, nephews and friends, He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Johnny Dean and Michael Scott, three brothers Lester Ray, Bobby, and John Curtis.
Merle proudly served his country by enlisting in the Vietnam War, where he received a Purple Heart, he was a master plumber and carpenter and was very meticulous about his work. He loved cooking and good food, reading and cracking jokes with his family and friends, he had a contagious laugh and sense of humor. He will be missed by all who loved him. Merle was always willing to help all of his family and friends and had a very generous heart for giving.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm, Wednesday, March 5,2025 at Menifee Home For Funerals with Bro. Jimmy Daulton officiating. Burial in the Crain Family Cemetery, Pomeroyton, KY with Military Honors conducted by the Morgan Co. D.A.V. Chapter # 132. Visitation, 11:30am Wednesday at Menifee Home For Funerals, Frenchburg, KY, Randy Halsey Funeral Director.
